This document specifies the use of gas chromatography to determine the purity and impurity content of industrial tert butanol.

This document is applicable to the determination of industrial tert butanol produced by isobutene hydration and isobutane co oxidation processes. When TBA-85 is measured using a thermal conductivity detector (TCD), the low impurity content is 0.01% (mass fraction). When TBA-85, TBA-95, and TBA-99 are measured using a hydrogen flame ionization detector (FID), the low impurity content is 0.001% (mass fraction).

This standard replaces SH/T 1497-2002 "Determination of tert butanol content and impurities for industrial use (Gas chromatography method)".
